How much money will this cost me, and how do I pay?
Cost varies by type of cylinder and work performed. As a guideline, a cylinder with base-metal damage exceeding a depth of .007" will generally require welding. With that in mind, please contact us for the cost of repair for your cylinder or look here to see our general pricing. When sending us your cylinder, please print and complete a copy of our work order form with your preferred payment selected.

How long will it take?
The first factor affecting total turnaround is shipping. Carriers, your location, and shipping method chosen will all affect time in transit. Once received, turnaround times vary by cylinder style, season, and type of work performed. Contact us for current turnaround times for your cylinder. For next day turnaround you may be able to take advantage of our exchange program. Read more about our Cylinder Exchange Program.

Do I need to send a new piston along with my cylinder?
Although it is not mandatory, providing us with a new piston is always a good idea. By having a piston we can ensure proper finish bore size, as well as making sure that your new piston hasn't been damaged. In most cases however, we can do a cylinder to stock dimensions based on provided make, model, and year. If you'd like us to provide a new aftermarket piston, simply choose the type you'd like on our work order form and send it in with your cylinder.

I'm doing a big-bore. Do I need to send any parts besides my cylinder?
When doing many big-bore kits, it is necessary to modify other parts of the motor. Often times, the power valve assembly and/or cylinder head require changes to accept your new bore size. Failure to modify these parts will result in power loss and/ or engine failure. If unsure of your needs, please contact us.

I'm doing my own over-boring. What size do I bore to?
Your cylinder should be bored to .009" (±.001") over your finish bore size. In other words, take your piston size, add clearance, and then add .009". When doing your final pass, it is a good idea to use a new bit to ensure we receive a smooth, groove free surface that is ready for plating. If left undersized or too rough we will need to re-bore your cylinder, negating your attempt to save cost and time. Please do not hone your cylinders at this point. Honing on bare aluminum forces oil into the casting and can result in excessive porosity.

What is porosity, and will it affect my engine?
Porosity is gas trapped in the base metal aluminum during casting. These “holes” are exposed when the cylinder is machined or subjected to various chemicals in the plating process. The pits are usually small in size, and in good castings few and far between. When kept under acceptable levels, porosity will not adversely affect the performance or longevity of the engine. In fact, it will improve lubrication. The pits will not cause the coating to peel, nor will a ring hook on them. As far as our specifications on porosity, our cylinders carry a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Therefore, through extensive testing we have found that porosity is a cosmetic problem only. In our pursuit to have both cosmetic and functional perfection we do everything possible to remove these pits. In some cases this is not possible, so we release the cylinder only in cases where it will not affect performance.

Does Millennium provide high-performance porting and polishing?
No, we do not. We concentrate on providing most of the high-performance shops in the country with superior plating and repair services. Many of these shops have their own porting designs and methods that they want to keep a secret. Since we are not involved in porting, they know that their secrets are safe with us. If you contact us we can recommend a shop in your area to perform porting either before or after your cylinder is re-plated.

Why not install a cast iron sleeve in my damaged cylinder?
In many cases, your cylinder was not designed to run with an iron liner. Installing a sleeve not only ads weight to your cylinder, but you will also be sacrificing the unbeatable wear characteristics of an NSC coating. Over time an iron liner will wear, resulting in too much piston to wall clearance. A cylinder with an NSC coating will also run much cooler. This is due to the ability of aluminum to dissipate heat at a greater rate as well as an NSC coated cylinder's superior ability to hold oil. In addition, re-plating your cylinder with NSC will almost always be less expensive and less time consuming.

Do you have dealer programs?
Yes. If you are in the power-sports industry, dealer pricing is available. Along with your first order, simply provide us with a business card, federal tax number, and/or a copy of a state issued sellers permit. No application, no waiting, we'll set you up on the spot!
